Summary:
At the tail-end of a bloody battle for the Stygian Tiger Amulet, a distraught Wei Wuxian throws himself off a cliff. Badly injured, Lan Wangji attempts to save him, but an enraged Jiang Cheng plunges his sword towards Wei Wuxian, who falls to his death. We'll see the full scene again (with back story and motivations) in episode 33.Sixteen years later, Wei Wuxian is brought back in the body of poor, abused Mo Xuanyu. He meets up with Lan Clan wunderkinds Lan Sizhu & Lan Jingyi to solve a Mo Clan mystery of possession by an evil sword. When things are looking their bleakest, an older Lan Wangji appears and captures the cursed sword.
Notes:
- In the novel, Wei Wuxian is torn to pieces by his own magic and dies a horrible death, being eaten by his own summoned corpses. In the web series, it seems like he might not have really died - no body or soul was ever found. No, he's really, really dead from falling off the cliff.
- Mo Xuanyu put the Body Sacrificial Curse on Wei Wuxian
- Lan Sizhui arranges the Stygian Lure Flag
- The cursed sword was originally a dismembered arm trying to reassemble itself with the rest of the corpse (someone we'll meet later on)
- Sixteen years later, everyone is still using Wei Wuxian's demonic cultivation tools - the Stygian Lure Flag was his invention
- Guo Cheng, the actor portraying Lan Jingyi, is three years older than Wang Yibo (Lan Wangji) & Wang Zhuocheng (Jiang Chen), who are both a year older than Zheng Fanxing (Lan Sizhui). Xiao Zhan (Wei Wuxian) is the oldest out of all of them.
