Info:
- Release Date: January 26, 2015
- Creators: Park Byung Hwan (director), Won Young Shil (writer)
- Genre: K-Drama
- Rating: ★★★★☆
Plot:
- Clutzy orphaned schoolgirl In-Hyeong is living my junior high dream: she has her own silver trailer near the water and four dolls that turn into four-sevenths of a cute K-Pop band.
Episodes:
- 101: There's Something Special About Them (01/27/2015)
Former rich girl In-Hyeong daydreams in class about four white knights saving her from three black knights. Shortly afterwards, four new students, who look suspiciously like the white knights, arrive at school to befriend and protect her: JB with his spell of ice, Mark with his spell of love, Jackson with his spell of fire and Youngjae with his spell of wind. Famous idols GOT, who look suspiciously like the black knights, also attend the school: the cool & attractive Jr, blue-haired BamBam & unfortunate blond bowl-cut Yugyeom. In-Hyeong, nursing a huge crush on Jr, accidentally stumbles into him and rips his pants open. The next morning, In-Hyeong wakes up in bed snuggled next to the four new kids from school. She screams and credits roll.
- 102: Unfriendly Guys (01/29/2015)
In-Hyeong accuses the four guys, who I'll start calling GOT4, asleep in her bed of being perverts. Mark smirks "How could there be a pervert who looks this good?", while Youngjae enigmatically mentions that it's not the first time they've all slept together. Jackson takes it one step further (of course he does) by mentioning that In-Hyeong has even kissed JB. She's late for school, so she doesn't have time to grill them further on her supposedly kinky bedtime shenanigans. On the way to school, she runs into GOT's super-fans, who run her into the street. Just when she's about to be run over by an unconvincing 'dude' on a motorcycle, the GOT4 guys spring into action to protect her. Everyone rocks out to JJ Project's Bounce, which just seems disrespectful without Jr around to join in. The mean girls try to beat up GOT4 and probably would have succeeded, if GOT4 hadn't used their secret powers. In-Hyeong returns to her trashed trailer, where GOT4 makes the mean girls apologize. She kicks them all out for the night.
- 103: Please Take Care of In Hyung (02/03/2015)
After a phone call from a family friend, In-Heyong is under the mistaken impression that the guys are her friend's son and school friends. She begrudgingly lets them crash with her, and she falls asleep to a video her dead mom. The next morning, GOT4 makes coffee and is disappointed that there is no food for breakfast. The guys decide to b-boy dance to earn grocery money. 2PM's Chansung ("Living Dance Legend") gets tricked into overpaying, but he can undoubtedly afford it. Everyone goes food shopping and GOT4 manages to find the toy section. In-Hyeong pays "fanservice" to Jr and rearranges the grocery store food display, much to JB's disgust ("That's not fanservice!") Food and snacks back at the trailer! Jackson breaks In-Hyeong's video camera and she angrily throws them all out. She splashes water on them to get them all to leave and they disappear into sparkles.
- 104: Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo (02/05/2015)
In-Hyeong notices that the stuffed dolls that her mom bought her as a kid (and that look suspiciously like four members of GOT7) are soaking wet. Hmm. They dry out, the guys appear and I feel like I'm watching a commercial about buying these stuffed dolls. At school, everyone rushes GOT except for In-Hyeong. Jr vaults the gymnastic equipment and sort of helps In-Hyeong clean up. In-Hyeong hurts her foot and we find out she has a degenerative bone disorder. Geez, Dream Knight! Can we just get back to the "you might have accidentally slept with a K-Pop band without knowing it?" plotline? JB and the guys help her home, then head off to the local video store where they're helped by Changmin from 2AM. JB threatens/flirts with him to get the camera fixed. Everyone signs In-Hyeong's cast, then leaves JB alone with her to snack on food and romance each other. Jackson runs off to Jenny's food truck ("Jenny's House") to snack on fish cakes and flirt with the enemy. Of course he does.
- 105: With Stars (02/10/2015)
JB and In-Hyeong almost kiss, before the rest of the GOT4 members show up. Next day at school: Dance Festival announcements are posted! Winning prize? Peforming with GOT. In-Hyeong tries to convince her old friend, Mi-sun, to audition, but Jenny has already snagged her up. The GOT4 guys agree to help train and the team is hilariously dubbed "The Sucky Dancer and the Leftovers." I'd see them. We learn, though a flashback, that In-Hyeong is poor because she accidentally signed away her family fortune after her mom died. There are lawyers for a reason, In-Hyeong. She gets the bad news that she's *dying* from the degenerative bone disease, and this is amping up the stakes a little too high for a damn dance-off, I think. We, the viewers, discover that GOT4 are actually her stuffed dolls who were sent to protect her (and romance her?)
- 106: Secretly, Persistently (02/12/2015)
The semi-evil GOT guys are filming a commercial about the Dance Festival. Jenny swears to win the contest because Jr is way hot. Preach, sister! Jackson's no slouch either, though. In-Hyeong starts her training, but her denegenerative bone disease that is killing her is getting in the way of her dance strength, so JB has her working out with weights. This seems ill-advised. The evil GOT guys get into an argument with GOT4 and they have a furious dance battle. It's what I'd like to think the splinter groups of GOT7 do all the time. Jr gets forced into doing additional press for the film crews, so in-Hyeong drags him away to safety. They hide out for a bit and start to fall affectionately in love. JB finds Jr and In-Hyeong and freezes Jr with his special power. Junior thaws out and thinks: "He wasn't a human?" Interesting
- 107: Why Did the Little Mermaid Turn Into Bubbles? (02/17/2015)
Jr spills the beans to BamBam and Yugyeom, who decide to splash water on GOT4 to see if it'll cause them to turn back into non-humans. I like seeing Jinyoung and the youngest members of GOT7 planning evil deeds. More, please! BamBam sets Mark & Jackson up with some dangerous thugs, and Mark can't help but use his love power to neutralize them. Advantage: BamBam. Yugyeom matches wits with Youngjae over water, but he keeps splashing a beautiful woman (Suzy!) instead. JB tries to make In-Hyeong practice dance, but Jr comes to steal her away for a date instead. They all head back to the trailer. Right on, In-Hyeong! Yugyeom finally succeeds in his quest to splash Youngjae, as he grins evily. Jr lets JB know that the gig is up - that he knows who they are.
- 108: The Road To You (02/19/2015)
Jr and BamBam meet with JB, Jackson and Mark to let them know that they know that they're non-human guardians to In-Hyeong. I assume Yugyeom and Youngjae were busy drying off at this time. Turns out GOT were also guardians who failed their human and became mortal. Jr offers the tempting advice - they all can become human if they just betray In-Hyeong (which pretty much makes them sucky guardians, since she'll die if they do that). Jr makes it sound like it's no big deal, but you can tell the betrayal was accidental and actually pretty awful for them. He confronts JB and lays it out plainly: "Either you die or she dies." In-Hyeong practices dancing by herself, while Mark and BamBam hang out and discuss mortality. Youngjae plays the piano to fans and Jackson helps Jenny out in the food truck in exchange for fish cakes. All of the GOT4 guys (minus JB) decide to pick mortality (and killing In-Hyeong off) instead of dying. Jr ups the stakes by mentioning that "even if a single guardian leaves her, In Hyeong will die." Well, shit.
- 109: Episode 109 (02/24/2015)
JB fights Youngjae, who is perfectly fine killing off his human sponsor for a shot at life ("All humans will die"). JB starts swinging at Jackson and Mark too, while BamBam mentions "Wow, those guys are scary!". In-Hyeong notices them all returning battered and bruised, but pays them no mind and talks to her dolls about how great the guys are. The three wayward members of GOT4 have a crisis about betraying her to the death; JB stays true to In-Hyeong. They all join up with her for a midnight dance practice, but Jr is already there, asking her out on a date.
- 110: The Way to You (02/26/2015)
Junior smirks at GOT4 as he leaves on his date with In-Hyeong. It ends up being a sucky date, mostly because I've learned that dating a k-pop idol means a never-ending stream of hate mail, hate packages and gossiping mean girls. JB waits for her once she gets home ("Did you have a good time on your date?"), but Jr makes up his lousy date to her the next day by bringing food to the trailer. It's a great date, but In-Hyeong finally realizes that she's in love with JB. She runs to Chansung's concert to find him and enlists Chansung's help. They make-up, much to Jr's dismay.
- 111: One Sweet Day (03/03/2015)
JB waits for In-Hyeong at the doctor's office. The news is bad - her condition is deteriorating faster than they thought. This dance show will be her final show. In-Hyeong breaks off her romance with Jr and continues practicing for the dance. She goes out for an ice-cream date with JB and they dress up in all sorts of wacky costumes, including bride and groom which seems way too serious for a first date, but Tony and Maria of West Side Story did it too, so I guess it's OK. Look how they ended up! The rest of GOT4 surprise the dating couple with a final meal back at the trailer.
- 112: Dream Knights (03/05/2015)
The next morning, Junior meets up with In-Hyung and mentions that her new boyfriend and his friends aren't human - they're her stuffed doll guardians. The Dance Festival competition has started and she still hasn't shown up. She shows up belatedly and lets JB know that she loves him, no matter who (or what) he is. At the dance competition, Jenny douses herself with gold sparkles, but it's no match for "The Sucky Dancer and Leftovers" - they win the contest handily. And just when it looks like In-Hyung has crumpled and died, the GOT guys join them all on stage for a grand finale. In-Hyung bids farewell to GOT4 (kissing JB before he dissolves away) and Jr brings her the repaired camcorder, courtesy of JB. Tag ending: she's on a date with Jr when a pair of red converse shoes attached to JB appears. He's mortal now! Did he kill anyone to return to his true love? We'll never know...
Cast:
Notes:
- Ye-Jin and Chansung will later star together in What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?
- The opening credit sequence! If the entire web series had been set in medieval times with seven knights vyying for the affection of a single lady, it would be one of my favorite k-pop dramas ever. Reminds me of Boyfriend's Janus video.
- "Your millionare mom died so you became homeless!"
- "She took his innocence!" - In-Hyeong accidentally ripping Jr's pants open
- The four knights (JB, Youngjae, Mark, and Jackson) having a dance-off battle with the remaining three members of GOT7 (Jr, BamBam and Yugyeom)
