Success or Failure?:
It's always tricky remaking a cult classic, and many things don't quite work.
Here's what worked & didn't work for me:
- Frank-n-Furter: Fail
Laverne Cox is too sweet to be sexually intimidating. That said, her best scene is in the elevator with Janet - "Planet, Schmanet, Janet"
- Brad: Push
Ryan McCartan (Heathers: The Musical!) grows on you, but that original song is godawful. Still, he gets a push from me. No harm, no foul.
- Janet: Success
Victoria's absolutely delightful; loved "Toucha-Toucha-Touch Me"
- Riff Raff: Fail
Reeve, you were the reason I was watching this in the first place. Loved you in Penny Dreadful. You should have knocked this out of the park. You did not knock this out of the park.
- Magenta: Fail
Never quite gelled for me; she seemed more mean than weird
- Columbia: Success!
Adored Annaleigh and her blue, Blowpop mouth. Columbia for MVP!
- Dr. Scott: Push
Ben, you just didn't make that much of an impression
- Eddie: Success
Adam Lambert had an easy time of this; didn't love his dead face or the fact that they played safe with the cannibalism. Glad Eddie finally learned how to spell "Dead", though
- Rocky: Push
Staz is way cute and his singing was great, but putting Rocky in gold boxer shorts and not showing off his body was a disappointment. Pulling punches
- Criminologist: Fail
I'm sorry, Tim Curry. I really am. It's great seeing you up and around, but I think Richard O'Brien should have taken the roll. Would have loved an unexpected cameo from you in the final song
- Transylvanians: Fail
The Transylvanians should have been misfits of society - people of all shapes and sizes - instead of a gaggle of toned dancers in their early 20s
- Usherette: Success!
Ivy was glorious and weird and everything I was hoping a remake would include; she's pretty much the opposite of the Transylvanians. Loved her take on "Science Fiction, Double Feature"
Final rankings? Four Successes, Three Pushes and Five Fails
